Band Camp Information

Band Camp - Monday, July 20 - Friday, July 31

First week 8am - 3:30pm Second week 8am - 5:30pm All students must have a completed sports physical before band camp!

Ice Cream Social - Monday, July 20, 7pm Maggie Moo's Ice Cream Truck will be in the parking lot from 7pm-8pm selling ice cream for $4 (small), $5 (regular) and $6 (large) in cones or cups. Maggie Moos generously donates a portion of the proceeds raised during this event to the band. So come on out and enjoy some ice cream and get to know some of the other parents and students. This is also a good time to turn in any missing paperwork and/or physical forms. (More information to come on this event.)

Preview Show and Potluck Dinner - Friday, July 31, 6pm Band camp will dismiss at 4:30 to give students the opportunity to go home and change into their summer uniform before returning to school at 6pm for the preview show. Band Polos will be ordered during band camp and handed out on Friday prior to the show.

Summer Uniform consists of Band Polo, solid white shorts (must be within 2 inches from the knee), white socks, and mostly white tennis shoes/sneakers. Please make sure your student has a pair of white shorts in time for the preview show. It is recommended that you have two pair of white shorts. Often there is not enough time to wash them between game night and competitions/exhibitions the following day.

Each section will be asked to bring a covered dish for everyone to enjoy a potluck dinner in the school cafeteria immediately following the preview show. More information regarding what you will be asked to bring will be sent in a separate email.

Bottled Water Donation

We ask each student to donate a case of water at the beginning of band camp. This water is given to students during camp and at competitions and games. Cases can be dropped off in the band room.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR BAND CAMP Hydration - Begin on Sunday evening after 6pm by drinking 2 LARGE bottles of water or sports drink. Be sure to bring plenty of water to keep hydrated during the week. The band directors take many breaks during the day to allow students to rehydrate. Breakfast - Breakfast is very important! Each morning students should eat a breakfast high in protein and complex carbs. It is NOT a good idea to eat cereal with milk or sugary pop tarts/pastries for breakfast – they do not mix well with exercise and heat! Eggs, bacon, toast and/or fruit are good choices. Lunch - The Sunshine Committee will provide a sack lunch each day during bandcamp. Lunches will be $4 each day or if you want to pay for the week in advance, you can save $2 and pay just $18. I have attached a copy of the menu for your review. You can send the form in with your student Monday morning, or we will have copies at the concession stand all during band camp. Students can also purchase items ala carte at the prices listed at the top of the menu. All proceeds go to the general band account.

First Aid -- Students should apply a high SPF sunscreen each day. We hope to have a least one chaperone at the school each day during band camp. Please contact Lori Johns, Johnslm@hotmail.com, if you are available for any amount of time during the two weeks of band camp to help with first aid. We have general first aid items such as band aids, ice packs, Benadryl, Advil, Tylenol, sunscreen, Benadryl Spray for bug bites, etc.

EpiPen® - If your student has allergies that require an EpiPen for immediate medical help, please make sure to provide one for camp! You can give the EpiPen to the Chaperone on duty.

Students, if you leave the field because you are feeling sick DO NOT GO TO THE RESTROOM UNTIL YOU CHECK WITH A CHAPERONE FIRST. Chaperones need to know where you are at all times, especially if you are ill. Again… DON’T FORGET YOUR PHYSICAL, or you will be sitting on the sidelines! Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions, comments, or concerns.

Thanks!
